Wills and Powers of Attorney
Your Will tells everyone what should happen to your money, possessions and property after you die. All of these things together are called your ‘Estate’. If you do not leave a Will, the law decides how your Estate is passed on, and this may not be in line with your wishes.
A Power of Attorney is a legal document that gives someone else the right to act on your behalf. Many people believe their families will be able to step in if something happens and they cannot make decisions for themselves. This is not always true. You can name someone to make financial decisions for you, such as paying your bills, with a continuing Power of Attorney for Property. You can name someone to make personal care and health decisions such as where you live, what you eat or what medical care you will receive if you get sick or injured, with a Power of Attorney for Personal Care.
